Christmas Pageant 2007
The Christmas Eve Divine Liturgy begins at 6 PM on Monday, December 24, 2007 and is followed by the pageant at approximately 7:30 PM. The year the annual Christmas pageant will once again be organized and directed by Angelique Demetris. All students are invited and encouraged to take part in the pageant. The selection process for the pageant, especially the major roles, are based on attendance. A student’s attendance from the entire previous year will be considered when making selections.
We pray that this letter finds you and your families in good health and joy. We are writing to you on behalf of the Saint Luke’s Sunday School. The holiday season is quickly approaching and once again it is time to start focusing our attention on the Christmas Pageant and other holiday festivities.
This is a special year as Christmas Eve falls on Sunday. Because of the timing of the holiday, the pageant will immediately follow the Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning.
Fr. Christ will dismiss the children participating in the pageant at a certain point in the Divine Liturgy. Every year we have a wonderful response from the community. The only problem we ever experience is finding enough places for all the children in the pageant. We pray that this is always our greatest problem. However, it does require that we apply a certain degree of fairness and recognition when choosing the students who will participate in the pageant. Each year we have continually tried to add more roles for students wherever possible. In the past, we have always looked to the students in the Sunday School who maintain a perfect attendance record. While perfect attendance is a wonderful accomplishment, it is often very difficult for a student to achieve. For the main roles, we are looking for students who have had the "best" attendance which generally includes students who only miss one or two Sundays during the school year. Absences while away attending another Church are excused. Remember, we will be using the attendance from the entire previous year when we choose these roles.
There are many different roles available for students to take part in. Let us help break everything down for you:
1 Littlest Angel (Kindergarten)
10 Little Lambs (Kindergarten)
At least 40 Angels (1st -6th grade)
3 Wisemen (6th & 7th grade)
5 Shepherds (5th, 6th, & 7th grade)
Panagia (7th grade girl)
Joseph (7th Grade boy)
Baby Jesus (Newborn from parish)
3 Archangels (7th Grade girls)
1 North Star (7th Grade girls)
15 Singers (3rd grade and up, boys and girls)
Sunday School Narrators (8th, 9th, and Discussion group girls and boys)
Greek School Narrator
This year there are only two scheduled practices for the Christmas pageant. Both rehearsals will start immediately after the Divine Liturgy. Because there are only two practices this year, each practice may run a little longer than in the past so please make arrangements accordingly. The rehearsal dates for this year’s pageant are December 9th and December 16th. ATTENDANCE AT BOTH REHEARSALS IS MANDATORY. If you have any problems with the scheduled rehearsals, please speak with our pageant director, Mrs. Angelique Demetris. Students are asked to meet downstairs in the Board Room for all practices. Once everyone is assembled, students will proceed upstairs to the Church. Costumes will be distributed at the end of the second rehearsal. We ask that all parents and younger/older siblings stay downstairs while the children are practicing so that students are focused and we can keep the length of the rehearsal to a minimum. Each rehearsal will take approximately one hour and a half.
Parents are asked after the second rehearsal to take their child’s costume home. Costumes should be washed, ironed and labeled with masking tape with their child’s name so that is it ready for the night of the pageant. Finally, please remember that parents are welcome and encouraged to bring snacks for the children participating in the pageant. If you are interested in bring something, please fill out the sign-up sheet listed below.
If you have any questions or concerns about the pageant, please feel free to contact us at any time.
