Curriculum Outline: PRIMARILY REVIEWING AND BUILDING UPON PRESCHOOL

CREATION:  To understand that Creation is God’s gift to us. [I-1,4; W-17]

  1. Retell the story of Adam and Eve. [W-17]
  2. List (3) different ways we enjoy God’s gifts and the creation.
  3. Make a depiction of the Creation. [W-17]
  4. God created all people. [IV-3]

LOVE:  To understand that God loves us.

  1. God gave us the Creation.

JESUS IS THE GREATEST GIFT: To identify important events in the life of Christ and to connect these events’s in Christ’s life with the major feasts of the Church. [Use a children’s Bible and icons.  Insert lessons as they fit in the Liturgical Calendar.]

  2. Jesus gave the Disciples and us the Lord’s Prayer.  We can pray the Lord’s Prayer with family at meals, and at bedtime.
  3. Recite Lord’s Prayer.
  4. List when we pray (before meals, in the morning and at bedtime; use Orthodox prayers). [V-2]
  5. Give reasons for praying (what and why; family, friends, health, gifts and talents).
  1. To understand that we should share God’s gifts with others. (Tie in with a simple explanation of Matthew 25)
  2. Share God’s gifts by doing things for the needy and ill. (Ex. Bring food, mittens, etc. for the needy; coins for the Orthodox Christian Mission canister.)

WORSHIP & DOCTRINE:  To understand that going to Church is a joyful experience of prayer and singing requires proper conduct. (Suggest using “Building Your Own Church”, “Building Your Own Iconostasion”, “Build your own Bishop, Priest, Deacon” available from OCEC and add small models of baptismal font, Gospel, etc.)
